Did You Know That Shag Rugs Are Making A Comeback?
Shag rugs are one of the most interesting alternatives to the more common flat carpets and rugs which are found in many living rooms. Shag can create a homely effect all of its own, especially where it is used near to a real fireplace. The design of these rugs is typically plain, with the texture and the unique appearance used to create the aesthetic effect. It is possible, though, with modern manufacturing techniques, to produce a more ambitious shag rug. Although it looks as though these rugs would be difficult to maintain, it is actually quite easy if you know what to do. The shag rug is coming back into fashion, and has many years of useful life yet to come.
The basic design of a shag rug has changed little since the days when they were considered fashionable in the 1970s. Most rugs continue to be of one color and a very simple design, partly because that makes them easier to design and construct, and partly because the plain design is what will fit best into most living room surroundings. Some designers have expanded on this, and if you want to use a more ambitious design you will need to make sure it fits in with the surroundings.
A shag rug needs to fit into a situation where it is practical and where it is appropriate. Rooms where small children are likely to play games, for example, don't make a good base for anything other than a flat rug or carpet. The surface could easily become damaged beyond repair in this situation. Given the proper siting of the rug, it is easier to clean and maintain than you would expect. While the material will obviously absorb anything spilled on to it, it is usually easy to wash the offending substance out again.
Shag rugs are created either by craftsmen working by hand, or in a factory situation. The former will be considerably more expensive, but they are more likely to have a unique appearance. These rugs are made to be hard-wearing, although they can obviously not be reversed in the way that many competing rugs can. The base of the rug is well protected against wear and tear by the shag surface, so while the rug may appear worn after many years it will still be perfectly usable.
It is true that shag rugs are making something of a comeback. While they have yet to reach the popularity they enjoyed in their heyday, more people are choosing them as a simple and durable way of transforming a living room. The Internet is the perfect place to search for a shag rug, because it opens you up to small retailers in far away cities which you would not otherwise find. You can always book a long distance delivery when buying shag rugs.
